In parts of Japan, unexplained lights and sunshowers are called fox weddings. The idea is that when rain falls from a clear sky, foxes are holding a wedding where people can't see it. At night, a line of drifting ghost lights in the hills looks like the lantern procession that once carried a bride to her new home. If you see one, the polite move is to look away and let the foxes have their day. The legend is still alive. Every early October in Takasaki, Gunma, people in fox makeup, masks and formal kimono stage a mock wedding procession. So when the drizzle starts on a sunny afternoon this autumn, you'll know whose party you're getting rained on by. ## Play / Watch This ![Play / Watch This](https://storage.ghost.io/c/cb/4e/cb4ed481-0c15-45c5-af06-fb31e16cb400/content/images/2026/10/side-quest-008-sec5.jpg) **Watch *Firefly Wedding*.** The premise is wild, but the reason to watch is Satoko. She's a sheltered noble daughter who, with a knife at her throat, bargains her way into a marriage instead of waiting for someone to save her. Be warned, the violence is graphic. Still, it's the rare new show where you'll want next Friday to hurry up. That's the run for this issue. Go beat Sephiroth, carry an umbrella in case of foxes, and we'll see you in two weeks.
