Bambu Lab's new H3C (announced November 3, 2026) is a $2,499 tool changer with nine print tools. The Snapmaker U1 is a $699 tool changer with four, on Black Friday sale. I run two U1s and a Bambu X2D in my print shop, so here's how the Bambu H3C compares with the Snapmaker U1, the X2D and the H2C, and which one fits what you print.

Bambu H3C vs Snapmaker U1 vs X2D: quick answer

  • Two to four colors, figures and minis, tight budget: the Snapmaker U1 at $699. It's a real tool changer for under a third of the H3C's price.
  • Five to nine materials in one print, TPU plus rigid parts, engineering filaments, and you want it enclosed: the Bambu H3C at $2,499.
  • Big single-color prints and cosplay props, with some multicolor: the Bambu X2D Combo, $789 at MatterHackers when I checked.
  • Already own an H2D, H2C or X2D? Don't rush. Bambu says multi-orifice nozzle printing is coming to all three, part of it this year and the rest by Q1 2027.

What is the Bambu Lab H3C?

The H3C is Bambu Lab's first third-generation printer: a nine-tool changer built around what Bambu calls Swaptek. Each of the nine print tools has its own filament path and heater. Bambu says a material switch takes under six seconds, with Active Pre-Heat and low priming. It's the closest thing yet to a mainstream printer that treats nine materials as easily as one.

  • Swaptek: nine print tools, under 6-second material switches, and each tool reaches up to 350°C.
  • FlexFeed extruder: takes both 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm filament, and prints TPU as soft as 75A at up to 3x the flow of a classic printer, per Bambu.
  • AMS 3H built in: sealed, airtight spool chambers with RFID, two drying slots up to 85°C, and dedicated TPU inlets. Add an older AMS through tool 1 and Bambu says you reach 24 materials in one print.
  • Motion: up to 1,400 mm/s and 25,000 mm/s² acceleration, a 65°C actively heated chamber, and full auto-calibration before every print. An optional Vision Encoder holds accuracy under 50 µm.
  • Size: 330 × 320 × 325 mm build volume, but the machine itself is 493 × 571 × 587 mm and weighs 36.28 kg with the AMS 3H.

H3C vs U1 vs X2D vs H2C: specs and prices side by side

The fastest way to compare tool changers is the price of each nozzle that can hold a color without flushing. On that measure the U1 is the cheapest by far, and the H3C and H2C land close together. The H3C's extras are the enclosure, drying and TPU handling, not a lower cost per color.

Which tool changer should you buy for what you print?

Pick by the job, not the spec sheet. This is how I'd split it, based on what my two U1s and my X2D actually do every week.

What you're printingBest pickWhy
Anime figures, chibis and minis in 2–4 colorsSnapmaker U1Four colors with no purge, at $699. It's what my U1s print every day.

Is the Bambu H3C worth $2,499 over a $699 Snapmaker U1?

Only if you'll use what the extra $1,800 buys: five or more tools, soft TPU, an enclosure for engineering filaments, and built-in drying. For two to four colors of PLA figures, the U1 does the same no-purge job for $699. That's why I'd tell most figure and mini printers to buy the U1 this Black Friday.

The H3C earns its price in a different shop. If you sell items that combine flexible and rigid parts, print nylon or carbon-fiber parts, or regularly run more than four colors, the H3C replaces a lot of workarounds. Bambu's ecosystem, Bambu Studio and support are also ahead of Snapmaker's.

The U1's real downside is the open top. Snapmaker sells a cover separately, so budget for it if you print ABS or ASA. The full Black Friday breakdown is in Snapmaker U1 Black Friday: Is It Worth $699?

Bambu H3C vs X2D, H2C and H2D: should you upgrade?

Probably not yet, if you already own one. The X2D is still the better value for big single-color work, and Bambu is bringing multi-orifice nozzle printing (different nozzle sizes in one print) to the H2D, H2C and X2D, per Bambu. The H3C's case is nine tools, FlexFeed TPU and drying built in. If you don't need those, your current machine keeps getting better.

  • X2D: dual nozzle, 1,000 mm/s, heated chamber. The X2D Combo is $789 at MatterHackers (list $899). Our X2D buyer's guide has the full breakdown.
  • H2C: Vortek hotend changer with up to seven hotends and a big 350 mm-class build volume. The H2C Combo is $1,899 at MatterHackers (list $2,199), which makes it about $600 cheaper than the H3C for seven colors instead of nine.
  • H2D: two independent nozzles, 350°C and a 350 × 320 × 325 mm build volume, with optional laser modules. Pick it over the H3C for soluble supports, two-material engineering parts or laser work, not for many colors. Our H2D vs H2C vs X2D comparison has prices and specs.

Bambu H3C price and bundles

Bambu sells the H3C with the AMS 3H included. These are Bambu's launch prices, and the Bambu Lab US store listed it as shipping from its US warehouse when I checked.

International launch prices for the base H3C: €2,499 (EU), £2,199 (UK), CA$3,499 and AU$3,999. MatterHackers also lists an H3C bundle with a filament sampler, but it was out of stock on November 5. The H3C wasn't on Amazon when I checked.

Bambu H3C vs Snapmaker U1 FAQ

Is the Bambu H3C a tool changer like the Snapmaker U1?

Yes. Both park and pick up separate toolheads, so each color keeps its own nozzle. The H3C has nine tools against the U1's four, plus an enclosure, built-in drying and a TPU-focused extruder.

How much does the Bambu H3C cost?

$2,499 in the US with the AMS 3H, and up to $3,049 for the Station Enclosed + E1 bundle. In Europe it's €2,499, and in Australia AU$3,999.

Can the Bambu H3C print TPU?

Yes. Bambu says its FlexFeed extruder prints TPU as soft as 75A, in both 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm, at up to 3x the flow of a classic printer.

Is the Snapmaker U1 a good alternative to the Bambu H3C?

For up to four colors, yes, and it's what I run. At $699 on Black Friday it costs less than a third of the H3C. You give up five tools, the enclosure and built-in drying.

The verdict

The Bambu H3C is the most capable multi-material printer Bambu has made, and at $2,499 it's priced for people who will use nine tools, soft TPU and engineering filaments. For anime figures, minis and display pieces in four colors or fewer, the Snapmaker U1 at $699 is the smarter Black Friday buy, and I own two. For big prints, look at the X2D. If you need nine materials, the H3C is in a class of its own.
