The most fun builds in Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) going into 1.0 are the Frogmancer (curses that spawn exploding Witchtoads), the Stag Launcher Spirit Walker, the Slowmaxing Chronomancer, Chaos Tornado Monk and the Pounce Tactician wolf pack. None of them is the fastest way to clear a map. Every one of them is a build you'll still be talking about after the league ends.

All five were picked by Grinding Gear Games for its official Build Showcase series during Early Access, and each links to its creator below. When PoE2 1.0 launches free-to-play on December 11, 2026, the passive tree and support gems change, so treat these as concepts to rebuild, not exact passive trees.

Pre-launch list. We'll check each build against the 1.0 patch notes when they're published, and add the best new 1.0 fun builds a week after launch.

1. Frogmancer: curses that rain exploding frogs

Witchtoads and a Sorceress from GGG's official Frogmancer Build Showcase for Path of Exile 2

The Frogmancer turns curses into cursed ground that spawns Witchtoads, which leap at enemies and explode for Chaos damage. It's built on Doedre's Undoing, a Lineage Support Gem (Yuzo TV runs it on a Stormweaver), and GGG's own description is "an unreasonable number of exploding frogs" (Build Showcase: Frogmancer by Yuzo TV).

  • Why it's fun: you curse a pack, step back, and watch frogs do the rest. It looks absurd and it actually clears.
  • 1.0 watch: it depends on one support gem, so check Doedre's Undoing in the 1.0 support gem rebalance first.

2. Stag Launcher: Spirit Walker with dodge-roll grenades

The glowing Vivid Stampede stag from GGG's official Stag Launcher Spirit Walker Build Showcase

The Stag Launcher puts everything into the Spirit Walker's Vivid Stampede Ascendancy skill and adds dodge-roll grenade tricks to set it off. It's Phylaris's build, from GGG's Stag Launcher showcase.

  • Why it's fun: every dodge roll is an attack. It's the most active-feeling build on this list.
  • 1.0 watch: Spirit Walker was the most-played Ascendancy in Runes of Aldur (poe.ninja), so it may draw balance attention.

3. Slowmaxing Chronomancer: stop time for everyone else

A black-winged bird and a haloed boss from GGG's official Slowmaxing Chronomancer Build Showcase for Path of Exile 2

The Slowmaxing Chronomancer uses the Auspex and its Grueling Madness aura to stack slows on enemies, up to 100% at maximum stacks. It's TuskDeluxe's build, from GGG's Slowmaxing Chronomancer showcase.

  • Why it's fun: bosses that usually rush you end up crawling. It's the most satisfying "turn the game off" build we've seen in PoE2.
  • Why it's not a starter: Chronomancer is in the D tier of Maxroll's league-starter Ascendancy list. Build it once you have some currency.

4. Chaos Tornados: a Monk that summons storms

An Acolyte of Chayula Monk wreathed in purple chaos from GGG's official Chaos Tornados Build Showcase

FlickerSlide's Chaos Tornado Monk, an Acolyte of Chayula (per FlickerSlide's guide), mixes chaos damage with a set of uniques to cover the screen in purple tornados. It's from GGG's Chaos Tornados showcase.

  • Why it's fun: the tornados keep moving through packs while you reposition, so the screen is never quiet.
  • 1.0 watch: it depends on uniques, and 1.0 reworks more than 70 of them. The Acolyte of Chayula Ascendancy is also being reworked, so check both.

5. Pounce Tactician: your own wolf pack

A snarling red spectral wolf from GGG's official Pounce Tactician Build Showcase

Lexxure's Pounce Tactician turns the Mercenary into a "professional dog walker" leading a wolf pack that tears enemies apart. It's from GGG's Pounce Tactician showcase.

  • Why it's fun: it's a summoner that doesn't feel like a summoner. You're leading the pack, not standing behind it.
  • 1.0 watch: the Mercenary reload rework could change how the build plays between pounces.

New in 1.0: the fun builds to try first

A winged armoured warrior from GGG's official Path of Exile 2 'A Return to Oriath' Act 5 & 6 trailer

The most fun new toys in PoE2 1.0 are the Shadow's Stealth traps, the Knight's Squire and Mounted Charge, the Infernalist's spell-casting demon and the Acolyte of Chayula's soul-clone. The Shadow, Infernalist and Acolyte details come from GGG's 1.0 announcement, and the Knight's from GGG's ExileCon showing as reported by PCGamesN. We'll rank them here once there's real gameplay.

  • Shadow traps: lay traps while in Stealth, and they explode in the order you threw them. That's built for chain combos.
  • Knight (Duelist): a Squire companion, War Banners and a Mounted Charge. It's the closest PoE2 has come to a cavalry fantasy.
  • Infernalist rework: a demon minion that casts any spell you give it, plus up to three Infernal Hounds.
  • Acolyte of Chayula rework: a companion that uses Quarterstaff skills, and the option to sacrifice your own life to move your soul into a clone.

Most fun PoE2 builds FAQ

What is the most fun build in Path of Exile 2?

For pure entertainment, the Frogmancer. Curses that turn the ground into a Witchtoad factory are hard to beat. If you want something more active, try the Stag Launcher Spirit Walker.

Are fun builds good league starters?

Usually not. Most of them rely on a specific support gem, Ascendancy skill or unique. Start with a proven league starter and switch once you have currency.

Will these Early Access builds work in 1.0?

The ideas will, but the details won't carry over unchanged. The passive tree is overhauled, support gems are rebalanced and more than 70 uniques are reworked, so rebuild each one from its core skill once 1.0 is live.

The bottom line

Play a safe starter first, then make your second PoE2 1.0 character a Frogmancer or a Stag Launcher. Keep an eye on the Shadow and Knight, too: new classes are where the weirdest builds of a league usually show up. Our PoE2 1.0 tier list covers how every Ascendancy stacks up.
