Every boss in Final Fantasy Resonance (FF Resonance) is beaten the same way: find its weakness, bring the Vision that carries that element, and drain the stagger gauge before it acts. This guide has all of it in one place: the weakness and resistance of every story boss, esper and major optional fight, plus the best Vision to bring for each one, matched to the chapter it unlocks in so you only see picks you can actually equip.
Updated October 30, 2026 for the launch version. Weaknesses are cross-checked across the fan databases that have compiled them from the full game (ffresonance.wiki, Game8 and MeowDB), since Square Enix hasn't published them. Where those sources disagree, the table says so.

How to beat any boss in Final Fantasy Resonance
Hit the weakness, stagger, then spend the bonus phase. Every boss has a stagger gauge under its HP bar, weakness hits drain it faster, and a staggered boss loses its turn and its defense. The best Vision for a fight is the one that brings the boss's weakness without also bringing an element it absorbs.
- Check the weakness first. Use the table below, or cast Libra on anything new. Some bosses change weakness mid-fight (Archaeoaevis, Ultima Weapon, Sephiroth).
- Equip for the element, not the name. A Vision brings several elements, so pick the skills that hit the weakness and leave the rest unused. Warrior of Light against Liquid Thunder means his Earth skills, not his Lightning ones.
- Keep a healer in. Leah on Fina covers almost every story fight. Drop her only for a fight you can stagger fast.
- Fill elemental gaps with an esper. If your party can't reach a weakness, an esper brings it for three turns.

Final Fantasy Resonance boss weaknesses: every story boss
Here is every main-story boss in order, with the best Vision to bring. The Vision picks only use Visions that are unlocked by that chapter (unlock chapters are in our FF Resonance builds guide). Sephiroth is optional, but he's the fight most players are stuck on, so he's first.

Sources: weaknesses and levels from ffresonance.wiki, Game8 and MeowDB, which agree on every Chapter 1–6 weakness; Chapters 7–8 rest on ffresonance.wiki and MeowDB. Game8 doesn't list resistances. Locations for the Chapter 7–8 rematches and the final dungeon aren't confirmed by more than one source, so they're left out.

Esper trials: weaknesses and how to win

Espers are recruited by beating them, and each one is a stagger check with a gimmick. Shiva and Ifrit are the two that wipe parties, so they get their own notes below.
| Esper | Where | Lv | HP | Weak to | Resists / immune |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Siren | Ch. 1 story · Siren's Tower | 11 | 20,000 | Lightning | Resists Water |
| Ramuh | Ch. 2 optional · Mt. Thunderclap | 20 | 24,000 | Earth | Immune to Lightning |
| Leviathan | Ch. 3 story · Lake Dorr | 23 | 40,000 | Lightning | Resists Water |
| Titan | Ch. 4 optional · overworld | 30 | 65,000 | Wind | Immune to Earth |
| Ifrit | Ch. 5 optional | 33 | 96,000 | Water | Immune to Fire |
| Shiva | Ch. 5 optional · Mysidia | 35 | 115,000 | Fire | Resists Water, absorbs Ice |
| Odin's Shadow | Ch. 6 side quest · Bladerain Stele | 45 | 175,000 | Lightning | — |
| Bahamut | Ch. 7 · airship | 50 | 200,000 | None | Stores elemental attacks |
Ifrit: stop the Fury

Ifrit is weak to Water and immune to Fire. After his sixth hit he enters Fury (+40% attack and magic, −40% defense and spirit). Three Water hits end it; anything else during Fury triggers Fira Barrage three times. Bring Cloud or Shantotto for Water, keep Fire off the party, and stagger him to cancel Fira Barrage and Scorched Earth. Fire Sprite Earrings halve Fire damage (per ffresonance.wiki's Ifrit guide).
Shiva: control the elementals

Shiva is weak to Fire, resists Water and absorbs Ice, so anyone on Tronn or Terra has to stick to Fire skills. She summons ice elementals (weak to Fire, immune to Ice) that explode on their third action, and every third explosion sets off Blizzaga Barrage. Kill the elementals before they act. Clive is the cleanest Fire Vision here because he brings no Ice. A Tiara of Frost halves Ice damage.
Odin's Shadow and Bahamut

Odin's Shadow (175,000 HP) is weak to Lightning, so Bartz, Cloud or Firion all work. When he uses Concentrate, a death countdown starts that ends in Zantetsuken: stagger him before it lands. Bahamut has no weakness and stores the elemental attacks you throw at him, so build for raw damage and stagger, and be ready for Megaflare when his countdown hits zero.
The hardest fights: team and strategy

Sephiroth (Whirlpool Hollow)
Level 45 at minimum, 250,000 HP, and three phases. Go physical in phase one, but switch to magic while he's in Masamune in Waiting, which counters physical attacks. Then match each of his four Infusions to its counter-element (Fire → Water, Ice → Fire, Lightning → Earth, Wind → Ice), and finish with Light while he absorbs Dark. Our party is Rain (Warrior of Light), Fina (Leah), Nichol (Tronn) and Sakura (Terra). The full phase-by-phase plan is in our Sephiroth boss guide.
Archwitch Fina (Chapter 5)

100,000 HP, weak to Light and Water, and she resists Dark. She uses Doom and Death, so equip a Ribbon if you have one and keep a reviver ready. Lead with Warrior of Light for Light and Cloud for Water.
Gelidus (Chapter 6)

200,000 HP and the longest fight of the Sanctissimus Shrine run. He's weak to Fire and resists Ice, so put your casters on Fire (Clive or Terra) and save your Sweeping Stagger for a burn window rather than spending it early.
Chaotic Darkness (final boss)

Weak to Light and immune to Dark. Warrior of Light and Noctis both bring Light, and Leah keeps the party up through Ray of Apocalypse. Bench anyone whose damage is mostly Dark for this one. Sources disagree on whether the second form's weakness changes, so cast Libra when it transforms.
Optional and endgame bosses

| Boss | Where | Lv | Weak to | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Poison Flora | Ch. 1 side quest | 7 | Fire, Wind | — |
| Imposter Soldier | Ch. 1 side quest | 10 | Ice, Dark | Inflicts Paralysis |
| Blood Dragon | Ch. 3 side quest | 28 | Fire | Resists Ice |
| Phantom Train (true form) | Ch. 5 side quest | 32 | Ice, Light | Doom countdown |
| Typhon | Ch. 5 · airship | 35 | Ice | Resists Wind; Snort ejects a party member |
| Intangir | Endgame | 52 | Earth, Light, Dark | Absorbs Fire, Ice, Wind, Lightning and Water |
| Rogue Magitek Weapon | Endgame | 63 | Lightning, Water | Resists Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth; immune to Dark |
| Ultima Weapon | Endgame | 70 | Changes by form (Libra each form) | Stagger 5,000 |
| Shinryu | Endgame | 95 | None | Resists Light, absorbs Water |
| Omega | Endgame | 99 | Lightning | Stagger 15,000 |
Intangir is the trap here: it absorbs five elements, so a party built for the story will heal it. Bring Cecil (Light and Dark) and Earth skills only. Omega has a 15,000 stagger gauge, so plan for a long fight even though Lightning hits it.
Final Fantasy Resonance bosses: FAQ
What is the hardest boss in Final Fantasy Resonance?
Among the story-reachable fights, Sephiroth in Whirlpool Hollow: 250,000 HP, three phases and four rotating Infusions. In the endgame, Omega (level 99) and Shinryu (level 95) are tougher still.
What level should I be for each boss in FF Resonance?
Match the boss's level in the tables above. Story bosses run from level 4 (Belmodar) to level 55 (Chaotic Darkness), the espers from 11 (Siren) to 50 (Bahamut), and the endgame tops out at Omega (level 99). If a fight goes badly at the listed level, fix the elements before you grind: a party that hits the weakness can usually win a few levels under.
What is the best Vision for boss fights?
The one that brings the boss's weakness. Over a whole playthrough, Warrior of Light (Lightning, Earth, Light) and Tronn (Fire, Ice, Lightning) cover the most early bosses, and Bartz and Firion take over Wind and Lightning from Chapter 5. Our best Vision for each character guide shows who should wear them.
How do I find a boss's weakness?
Cast Libra, or check the table above. Weakness hits drain the stagger gauge faster, which is how every fight is won.
The bottom line
Bring the element, not the strongest Vision. Most boss walls in Final Fantasy Resonance come from a party that can't reach the weakness. Use the table, swap one Vision, and the stagger loop does the rest. For who to build first, see our FF Resonance character tier list, and for Vision rankings, the Visions tier list.
