The best characters in Final Fantasy Resonance (FF Resonance) are Rain and Nichol: every published tier list we checked puts both at the top, and they're the two you'll build every team around. Sakura joins them in S tier from Chapter 5, Jake sits at the bottom, and the middle is closer than most lists make it look.

This tier list ranks all eight party members for the launch version, updated October 30, 2026. It also shows where the four biggest published tier lists agree and disagree, so you can see which rankings are settled and which are opinion. For which Vision each character should wear, see our FF Resonance best builds guide.

Final Fantasy Resonance character tier list

TierCharacters
SRain, Nichol, Sakura
AFina, Lasswell, Archwitch Fina
BLid, Jake

How we ranked: boss value first, because that's where a weak character costs you. Then how long the character is in your party, then how much their kit depends on luck.

How the published tier lists compare

Rain, Nichol and Jake are settled: all four lists agree. Sakura and Lid are split two to two, and Game8 is the only list that puts Fina and Lasswell in B.

S tier: build your team around these

Rain (Sentinel, Fire)

Rain is S tier on every list, and he's in your party from the first minute to the last. He has the highest Stamina in the party, Protect and Provoke keep enemies off your casters, and his late-game The Power Within raises all his stats by 25% (per Destructoid). On Warrior of Light he also brings Lightning, Earth and Light, so your tank still feeds the stagger gauge.

Nichol (Synergist, Water)

Nichol, the Olderion strategist from Final Fantasy Resonance, reading a book
Nichol, the game's only Synergist. Image: Square Enix

Nichol is the game's only Synergist, and his buffs are why every list puts him in S. His formation skills buff the whole party, Tactic: Fluid Warfare grants extra actions, and his Mirroring Prism Limit Burst lets the party act twice (per Game8). His weakness is staying alive: Game8 flags low HP and physical defense, so keep him behind Rain.

Sakura (Commando, Dark and Lightning)

Sakura, the Mysidian sage from Final Fantasy Resonance, with her staff
Sakura, the party's strongest caster. Image: Square Enix

Sakura has the highest Magic in the party, and on Terra she's the strongest caster in the game. Sage's Eye and Concentrate set up her damage, Blighted Gloom lowers enemy magic defense, and her Limit Burst Eternal Veil blocks one hit for every ally. She splits the lists (Game8 and ThePhraseMaker have her at A) because she arrives late, in Chapter 5, and her physical defense is low. Once she's here, she's in every boss team we run.

A tier: strong, but replaceable

Fina (Medic, Light)

Fina, the party's healer. Image: Square Enix

Fina has the highest Spirit in the party, her second Limit Burst revives and fully heals everyone, and she can summon espers. Destructoid calls her the best support character in the game. Game8 ranks her B because later Visions and characters can cover healing. We disagree: on Leah she's the healer in every one of our boss teams, including Sephiroth.

Lasswell (Breaker, Ice)

Lasswell, the party's only Breaker. Image: Square Enix

Lasswell is the only Breaker in the party, with higher Strength than Rain and Haste in his kit. On Cloud, then Bartz from Chapter 5, he's your main stagger engine for the first half of the game. Game8 ranks him B because Nichol and Sakura push him out of late-game teams, and that's fair, but he earns A on the strength of Chapters 1 to 4.

Archwitch Fina (Saboteur, Dark)

The party's only dedicated debuffer. Bio, Allure and Distress soften bosses, she can summon espers, and she gets Ultima and Meteor. The catch is Witching Hour: it buffs the party but blocks White Magic healing, so you have to plan around it. Destructoid has her at B for that reason; three of the four lists put her at A. She joins in Chapter 5 and stays from Chapter 6.

B tier: good, but the first to bench

Lid (Commando, Earth)

Lid, the engineer who built Mechabo. Image: Square Enix

Lid has balanced stats and Mechabo's physical skills, and her best tool is unique: Mechamog Scan adds a random elemental weakness to any enemy, which is a real answer to bosses that resist your party. That's why Game8 and Destructoid have her at A. We have her at B with KeenGamer and ThePhraseMaker because she's the easiest character to bench once Nichol and Sakura arrive. Do her Mechabo subquests either way.

Jake (Commando, Wind)

Jake, the rebel army leader from Final Fantasy Resonance, with his twin gun-blades

Jake has the highest Strength in the party and a Luck meter that his Coin Toss and Gale Strike fill and his Blitzstrahl and Demolisher Rush spend. Critical Counter plus Aim gives him guaranteed crits for five turns (per Game8). Every list has him at B because so much of his damage rides on luck, and bosses punish a bad roll.

Which party should you run?

Our builds guide's party setups cover it in full: from Chapter 3, Rain (Warrior of Light), Lasswell (Cloud), Fina (Leah) and Nichol (Tronn); from Chapter 5, put Lasswell on Bartz and bring Sakura on Terra. For each boss's weakness, see the FF Resonance boss guide.

FF Resonance tier list: FAQ

Who is the best character in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Rain and Nichol. Every published tier list we checked ranks both S: Rain as the tank you'll use all game, and Nichol for buffs that give the party extra actions.

Who is the worst character in FF Resonance?

Jake. He has the highest Strength, but his damage depends on a Luck meter, and all four lists rank him B. He's still usable; he's just the first to bench.

Is Sakura worth using?

Yes. She has the highest Magic in the party and is the best fit for Terra, the strongest magic Vision. She joins late, in Chapter 5, which is why some lists rank her A.

The bottom line

Build Rain and Nichol first, add Sakura the moment she joins, and keep Fina healing. Everyone else is a matchup pick. Our Visions tier list ranks the Visions they'll wear.

We'll re-rank as the endgame gets mapped. Subscribe to Geeky Inc to get the update the day it lands.
